Dear family and friends,

We want to thank each of you for your prayers, words of encouragement and faith. The Lord has been gracious beyond measure, layering us with His peace, the peace that passes all understanding, undergirding us throughout.

As I was trying to pray last weekend I began reading in Joel. Although Joel is an ‘end time’ prophet, the more I read the more convinced I became that this little book of three chapters was also written for this critical situation that Lydia is facing (isn’t God good? The words written centuries ago have so many applications: personal, corporate, national, global-and He is not hindered by time!). I’ve shortened the following, so please take the time to start at the beginning of Joel so you get the context.

In Joel 2:12 the Lord speaks saying, ” ‘Now, therefore,’ says the LORD, ‘turn to Me with all your heart,  with fasting,  with weeping, and with mourning: 13So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return unto the LORD your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness…15Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly: 16Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and the nursing babes:let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, and the bride from her dressing room. 17Let the priests, who minister to the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say,

‘Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not give Your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them: Why should they say among the peoples, “Where is their God?” ‘

Joel 1:14 declares the first call to consecrate or sanctify a fast. The second call to fast is Joel 2:12 and the third call to fast is Joel 2:15.

“Yes, Lord, I hear you…”

The more I read the more I feel compelled to call for a fast on Lydia’s behalf. I am joining with a friend to pray and fast over the weekend of Jan. 4-8. I ask all of you to prayerfully consider joining with us as you are able. Fasting takes different forms: pray to find out how the Lord would have you fast.

Our prayer list includes (but is not limited to):

I.      Relief from chemotherapy:  That the chemotherapy Lydia received earlier this week does not ravage her little body as it did previously but rather, it will attack the leukemia cells leaving her good cells alone. Chemo is highly toxic. We stand on the promise that as Jesus Himself said in Mark 16, “…and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them…”

II.    Lydia‘s total healing: Our basis is as follows:

A.    We are told that there is no weeping, no disease in Heaven; and in Matt. 6:9-10, when the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, He said, “In this manner therefore pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven…”

B.     I John 5:14-15 says, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He hears us. 15And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” We do not ask for healing for Lydia in presumption or dictation or looking to the Lord to be anyone other than the Sovereign Holy One. We ask that His will be done. Period. We stand on His Word. If we have misinterpreted, we ask that He be glorified even in our ignorance.

C.    According to Joel 2:17 we are told to pray, Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not give Your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them: why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’ That gives us the authority to pray that our heritage (or inheritance) would not be brought to shame (given as a reproach). Psalm 127:3 says, “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”  CHILDREN are an inheritance (heritage) from the Lord! Who will steal from God or what He has given? No. It cannot be. We stand firmly on the Law that He created (which is fulfilled in Jesus, not negated) and we plead our case before the Holy Righteous Judge. Lydia is a gift, an inheritance from the Lord; we pray that her healing brings glory to Him and that unbelievers will not be able to say, “Where is their God?” but instead will marvel at His goodness and faithfulness.

D.    Finally, we stand as with Daniel 3: “If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods…”

III.  His mercy for others: We ask that His Holy healing Spirit inhabit the space round about Lydia and that those around her also benefit from His healing presence. There are so many sick children at Children’s Hospital. Our hope is that the Lord’s healing presence be manifested to all in a  mighty way, giving Him the opportunity to be worshipped and glorified for His goodness and faithfulness and lovingkindness.

Well, Dear Ones, we thank each of you for your faithfulness and ask that you pray about joining us in prayer and fasting. We ask God’s richest blessings on each of you.
